Research focus: material storytelling, public space, cultural representation
New York City, famously nicknamed "the melting pot", is one of the most diverse cities in the world. Being a New Yorker for 6 years, the way every neighborhood and borough has its own culture, traditions, and history is something that I fell in love with. The project reflects how the MTA serves as both a physical and symbolic connector of everyone in New York. The subway globe and wires connect the five boroughs represented by colors of their main subway lines.
Handmade using metal and eco-resin, the mobile incorporates subway colors, maps, and forms to translate urban infrastructure into a material narrative. The project explores how objects can communicate collective identity and lived experience through material and form.
